Elena McDonald-Buller
Air Resource Engineering (ARE)
Dr. Elena McDonald-Buller is a Senior Research Engineer at the Center for Energy and Environmental Resources at the University of Texas at Austin with more than 25 years of experience. She began working at CEER in 1998 overseeing a research team focused on outdoor air quality. Her research interests include air quality modeling, energy systems, emissions inventory assessment and development, analysis of air quality measurements, and the influences of land use/land cover change, biomass burning, and extreme weather events on air quality. In addition to her own research program, Dr. McDonald-Buller serves as a Project Manager for the Texas Air Quality Research Program (AQRP).
Her current collaborators at the University of Texas at Austin include Dr. David Allen, Dr. Yosuke Kimura, Dr. Kerry Kinney, Dr. Pawel Misztal, Dr. Paola Passalacqua, Dr. William Mobley, and Dr. Lea Hildebrandt-Ruiz. Dr. McDonald-Buller is a Co-Principal Investigator for the Southeast Texas Urban Integrated Field Laboratory (SETx-UIFL) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The SETx-UIFL is addressing the impacts of flooding and air pollution in Southeast Texas and the Gulf Coast region with the aim of co-developing applicable and equitable adaptation strategies with local partners.
Dr. McDonald-Buller believes in providing the most robust science to support air quality planning and management decision processes and communicating research outcomes to a broad range of professional and public audiences.
