Atila Novoselac is associate Chair of Architectural Engineering & Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. His areas of expertise are Architectural Engineering and Building Energy and Environments. Novoselac received his undergraduate degree and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Belgrade, Serbia and his Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 2005.

In 2005, Novoselac was hired as assistant professor at UT with the intention of developing lab space. Initially a modeler with a focus on developing computational fluid dynamics models of indoor pollutants and aerosols, he had built an environmental chamber at Penn State. The Center for Energy and Environmental Resources (CEER) provided the necessary space to build the lab which became operational by 2006.

Novoselac’s primary focus is on control of indoor environments and transport of aerosols, mostly pathogens and other aerosols coming from indoor and outdoor sources. His specialized work is associated with transport phenomena, which might be chemicals or aerosols. He plans to further pursue improving air quality and reduction of exposure. Novoselac is also looking into how to switch to new fuels, how to integrate renewable systems, and how to work with larger integration of renewable systems
